More notes about the marina |
Port du Frioul is a relatively new marina constructed in the bay between two of the Iles du Frioul, Ile Pomegues and Ile Ratonneau. Situated just under three miles SW of the Vieux Port of Marseille, it offers a convenient stopover for a visit to the famous French city just a short ferry ride away. It is usually easier to find a berth here than in the Vieux Port during the busiest months of July and August. The marina has 600 berths for yachts up to 15 metres in depths of up to 6.0 metres.
Marina radio contact
Contact the marina office on VHF channel 09. Alternatively, telephone or e-mail to enquire about advance reservations.
The marina is entered from SE through a narrow channel between a long breakwater extending SSW from Ile Radonneau (and sheltering the basin from E) and the NE tip of Ile Pomegues. Depths in the access channel are 5.0 - 6.0 metres and in the basin itself 6.0 – 7.0 metres. Shelter in the marina is good in the prevailing winds but there can be an uncomfortable swell when there are strong SE winds blowing. Port du Frioul could be potentially dangerous in a full SE gale.
Berthing
Berthing assistance may be available on request. Berthing is bows or stern-to on a series of 13 pontoons and associated quays and all berths are supplied with mooring lines. There are ostensibly 100 places available for visiting yachts.
