Niuafoʻou (meaning: many new coconuts) is the most northerly island in the kingdom of Tonga. It is a volcanic rim island with a population of 650 in 2006.

Cruising the region

Anchorage at Niuafoʻou is reported to be quite difficult, there is no harbour or lagoon so it's a matter of anchoring off the island and hoping for the best. Leaving someone on board on anchor watch would seem to be most prudent. Should the trade winds move away from the south east, leaving would be the best idea.
