* We visited in early June, with one cruise ship at the dock. The small town along the waterfront is pleasant - cafes, tourist shops, small super market. Leon charged us €15 (the minimum rate) as we declined water etc. We took the train to Olympia, which is well worth a visit. Good signage in Greek, English and German. Interesting museum, again with three languages. Very impressive statues etc. Again, plenty of cafes with reasonable prices in Olympia village next to the archeological park. Katakolo Port of Entry
| |
| |
Katákolo (Κατάκολο) is mainly a commercial port in NW Peloponnese. It is the watermelon capital of Greece. While it is not a particularly attractive port, it is a convenient place to leave the yacht while visiting the ancient site of Olympia, 25 km away. It is a port of entry.
The small town at the harbour is quite cute. But shops will be mostly closed if there is no cruise ship in town. However, through the summer there are cruise ships on most days - sometimes three, which can rather over-run the small town!
