Puerto Navarino was the first administrative centre for the Chilean territories in the south, having been established in 1928. The present Alcamar building started life as the governor's residence.

During the austral summer of 2007/8 it has been possible to check out of this port for Ushuaia on four days of the week - Tues/Wed and Sat/Sun. These are the days that the officials drive up from Puerto Williams to clear in and out the Chilean cruise liners 'Mare Australis' and 'Via Australis'. Clearance is normally in the evening... taking your paperwork ashore to the Alcamar earlier in the day speeds the process considerably. Having cleared late in the day it is permitted to depart for Ushuaia at first light the next day.
Berthing Options
Anchor in front of the Alcamar building or make fast to the buoy. Expect to find heavy kelp on your anchor when getting underway from this anchorage.
