More notes about the marina |
Yacht Club Marina is situated in the old harbour of the town of Mali Lošinj on the island of Lošinj in Croatia, at the head of a three-mile deep inlet. The marina offers a total of 110 berths for yachts up to 30 metres in depths of 6.0 - 7.0 metres. The marina is safe in all wind conditions, although strong N winds can cause an uncomfortable chop. The marina is in the heart of the old town and close to all facilities. It is consequently very busy during the season.
Communication
In theory, call Yacht Club Marina on VHF channel 17 (reception open 0700 - 2100 in season). Alternatively, telephone or e-mail for advance reservations.
In May 2013, the marina was open for business but did not answer either the phone or the VHF. The marina staff simply keep a watch for approaching yachts and then wave to you.
The approach to Mali Lošinj is through a 500-metre wide channel between the island of O. Koludarc to the S and the headland of Rt. Torunza to the N. Both should be given a good clearance as there are shallows extending for some 50 metres off them. Yacht Club Marina lies at the head of the inlet, some three miles SE from the entrance.
An alternative approach is from the E of Losinj island, through the canal itself. Depths in the canal are around 3.0 metres but the width is little over 6.0 metres and passage is therefore only suitable for monohulls of a moderate draft. The bridge which carries the road over the canal opens morning and evening (currently 0900 and 1800) to allow passage by yachts. Shelter in the marina is good in most conditions, although in strong NW winds conditions can get a little choppy.
Entrance
Yacht Club Marina is a port of entry/exit for Croatia. For details see Entrance: Croatia.
