Tekirdag is a new, commercial harbour on the north shore of the Sea of Marmara in Turkey, 67 miles west of Istanbul and a 72 miles NW of Canakkale in the Dardanelles. There is no provision for yachts in the harbour and visitors here must find a place here alongside the quays wherever they can. It may be necessary to lie alongside a fishing boat at busy times. Shelter is good from the prevailing N/NE winds, although the harbour is open SW.

Local Weather
See Turkey. Winds along the north coast of the Sea of Marmara are generally from N/NE, which can give some excellent sailing in flat water between the Dardanelles and Istanbul. Winds tend to be at their strongest in mid to late afternoon.
The harbour shown in some older pilot books no longer exists. It has been filled in and is now a huge car park, funfair and extended row of cafes and restaurants. A completely new harbour has been created to the E of the old facility, which it is intended to establish as a full marina once tenders for its operation have been received. Meanwhile, mooring in here is a ‘free for all’ and visiting yachts must find a space (usually alongside a quay or another vessel) wherever they can. Entrance to the new harbour is from SW and depths in the entrance are 5.5 metres. Depths at the quays range from 3.0 – 5.5 metres.
Check-in facilities (for Customs and Immigration)
The quays are currently populated with small local craft on DIY moorings and alongside. A visiting yacht will need to squeeze in wherever possible. The most likely spot is alongside near the lift-out bay at the N end of the harbour. If all else fails, the harbour is large enough to anchor off in the centre. Depths are around 5.0 metres and the holding is good in mud. No charge is currently made for using the harbour.

Eateries
Numerous fish restaurants along the waterfront. It is possible to dine out on balik ekmek (smoked fish sandwich) for as little as YTL 3.50.

- Tekirdag has its charms, although the noisy funfair just N of the harbour, which operates well into the night, will not be popular with yotties once the marina is established.--Athene of Lymington 07:12, 19 June 2011 (BST)
