Kimolos (Κίμωλος) is a barren island of 36 km2. It lies north-east of Milos, separated by a narrow channel.
This channel used to be an isthmus connecting the two islands. On this isthmus was a Mycenaean town. In antiquity the island was known as Achinousa from achinos - sea urchin.
Its present name comes from kimolia (κιμολία) - chalk because it produces cimolite.
The island has only 720 inhabitants living in three villages: Mesa Kastro, Exo Kastro, (sometimes these two are referred to as Chora or simply as Kimolos) and Psathi, the little harbor. The people are dominated by the ruthless Venturis family who have become very successful owners of ferry boats.

Psathi
36°47.1′N, 24°34.8′E Psáthi (Ψάθη) is the little harbor of Kimolos. It affords good protection from the meltemi but is open to the S - SE. There are gusts here.
You can either go stern-to the small quay or anchor off in 3 m depth. The holding is good. It is better to anchor off because if the scions of the Venturis family arrive with their fast boats they will chase you away from the quay.
