| |
Gramvousa actually refers to two a small uninhabited islands off the northwest coast of Crete. The larger of the two is Imeri Gramvousa (Ήμερη Γραμβούσα - tamed Gramvous) on which there is an anchorage and a Venetian Castle. The second island Agria Gramvousa ( Άγρια Γραμβούσα - Wild Gramvousa) has no anchorage.

The anchorage on the southern side of Imeri Gramvousa island can be approached from the west, in which case care should taken to avoid the reefs extending south from the SW corner of the island and north from the Tigani peninsula. However, a safer approach is from the north, where a course midway between the island and the isolated Petalidho rock brings you up to the anchorage. A rusting wreck marks the eastern end of the bay.

Anchorages
Imeri Gramvousa
Anchor in 5 meters in sand in the centre of the bay. The anchorage here is wonderful in settled weather, and adequately sheltered in strong NW or NE winds, although it is scary to see the white horses hurtling past either side of the anchorage.
