Tanga Port of Entry

|
Tanga is a sleepy little town, with historical connections from both German and British colonial times. There are old German buildings and various war graves to visit. Tanga has, well stocked grocery shops, an excellent dairy, where milk, yogurt, cream, mozzarella cheese and butter are always available; a good vegetable market with a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables which are brought down twice a week from the Usambara Mountains. Internet cafes are plentiful. The local people are cheerful, friendly and easy going.
Just outside Tanga lies an ancient limestone fault, where the Amboni caves are worth a visit. Beside the caves runs a small river where crocodiles can sometimes be seen, a family of Colobus monkeys live there, and for bird enthusiasts the great Vereaux eagle owls may be seen roosting in the trees, along with many other varieties of bird life.
Tanga is the nearest coastal town to Arusha; a regular bus services run to Arusha, passing the mighty Kilimanjaro mountain on the way. Arusha is the gateway to the Northern Wild Life Parks, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, Tarangire, each a unique experience.
The NBC and CRDB Banks in Tanga now have Visa ATM machines, so drawing money is no longer a problem.
Although little known, Tanga is a place worth visiting, so welcome to Tanga and enjoy a relaxed stay for as long as you wish
As you sail in behind the bluff, anchor off the most wonderfully friendly little yacht club on the port side of the channel just past the final dog's-leg into the port. DON'T miss this port of call. Customs and immigration facilities available. --From the Tanga Yacht Club website
