It is probably easiest to go into a marina until you have cleared, though there are anchorages just inside, north and south, of the Ft. Pierce inlet. For US vessels returning from outside the US, having a US Customs Decal when you call customs gives you 24 hours to show up in their offices, whereas otherwise you must report immediately and purchase the decal. Foreign yachts must report immediately to Customs, having given advance notice prior to making landfall as per current regulations. | It is probably easiest to go into a marina until you have cleared, though there are anchorages just inside, north and south, of the Ft. * We had a horrible experience with Habortown Marina in Ft. Pierce in late 2006 and wonder if the situation has improved. We had stayed over a week at the dock of the marina a few months previously, but this time we anchored outside the marina near the inlet and took the dinghy in. We were "greeted" at the dock by an extremely hostile employee who treated us (a family of three) like we were criminals. When I wrote to the marina they did respond but did not even apologize! It was the single most unfriendly situation we encountered in 19 months and 10,000 miles of cruising. You can read the whole story [http://www.stationr.org/water/log/east06/121406.htm HERE]. I wonder: has anything gotten better there? | * We had a horrible experience with Habortown Marina in Ft. Pierce in late 2006 and wonder if the situation has improved.
