Petrovac

Petrovac (pronounced [pětrɔ̝v̞at͡s]; or Petrovac na Moru (Serbian Cyrillic: Петровац на Мору, Italian: Castellastua) is a coastal town in Montenegro, within the Budva municipality, lying just under 10 miles SE of Budva and 12 miles NW of Bar. The town is a popular tourist resort, with a shingle beach and a small harbour protected by a 16th century Venetian fortress. It is not much visited by yachts, since its small quay seldom has space available for visitors. However, in settled weather and if there is space, Petrovac is a useful stop-off between the two major harbours to its SE and NW. The bay is not suitable for anchoring, since the bottom is littered with large boulders.

Communication
Also see World Cruiser's Nets
There are two small islands, Sveti Nedlja and Katic, lying half a mile S of the harbour. They have extensive reefs around them and should be given a good clearance on the approach. There are also isolated rocks along the coast both N and S, which are not dangerous as long as a yacht stays at least half a mile offshore.
Entrance
None. Bar or Budva are the nearest ports of clearance.
Berthing
Visiting yachts can berth (if there is space and in settled weather) alongside the SE side of the quay, where there are depths of 3.0 - 4.0 metres (shallowing to 2.0 metres at the N end). Mooring is to widely-spaced large concrete bollards. The quay is exposed in strong winds from any direction except N and untenable with even moderate southerlies.

Tourism
The small Venetian fortress by the harbour is worth visiting for the views. The town also has some well-preserved Roman mosaics, unearthed at the beginning of the last century (though the site is hard to find). The church of Sveti Ilije (Elijah) has some interesting old icons. Finally, of course, there is the beach (if you can find a square metre on it in summer).
