Local Weather
Local weather conditions?
Sources for weather reports:
The simplest approach is from Alnmouth Bay to the North taking care to avoid a shallow area called Pan Bush (depth 0.9 meters) by keeping the light on the north pier (Fl.G.6s 12m 6M) on a bearing of between 190T and 225T.
The harbour entrance has charted depth of 0.6 meters but this varies depending on silting and dredging. Only approaching when you have sufficient depth for the Marina (0.8 meters above chart datum) gives a reasonable margin unless conditions are particularly bad. If waves are breaking on Pan Bush then the entrance is considered dangerous and Blythe or River Tyne should be considered as alternative harbours.
Once inside the outer pier keep mid channel for half a cable and after the channel turns slightly south the best water is on the south side of the channel all the way up to the marina. Beware of a sand bank which extends from the disused wooden jetty on the north side of the harbour to about mid channel - keeping south close to the fishing boats moored against the harbour wall will keep you clear.
Waypoints
- Harbour Entrance is 55 degrees 20.42 N 1 degree 34.03 W
- Waypoint for approaching from the north 55 degrees 20.84 N 1 degree 33.94 degrees west
