Paxos (Port of Entry)
Background
The two islands Paxos and Anti-Paxos (together are known as Paxoi) (Παξοί), Paxoi is the plural of Paxos. They are 7 nM south of Corfu (Kerkyra). These two island have become very fashionable with the tourists, especially with the Italians, and the charter fleets. In the summer they are crowded.

Danger: On the E side of Paxos there are two reefs: Ifalos Paxoi and Ifalos Panayias.

Port Gaios
GPS: 39°12.12′N, 20°11.26′E
Port Gaios is the harbor of Paxos. Despite the crowded conditions is an attractive little harbor. It efforts excellent shelter from the meltemi. Moor stern-to the quay or anchor off a little to the south. It is also posible to anchor in the north channel and take a stern line ashore to the N side of Ay. Nikolaos. The bottom is mostly sand with some weed and provides good holding. In the summer season yachts are required to move from some parts of the quay by 0900 to make space for tripper boats from the mainland. |
Anchorages
Port Lakka
GPS: 39°14.4′N, 20°08.07′E
Port Lakka is an almost landlocked bay on north of Paxos. It is open only to the north east and provides good shelter from the meltemi. It is picturesque but very popular and liable to be crowded.
Anchor in 2-4 m over sand/mud and weed. There is a small quay that can take about 6 yachts stern-too. The view from the lighthouse is very good. Water and electricity available from the travel agent on the quay.
Port Longos
GPS: 39°13.62′N, 20°09.79′E
Port Longos is a small anchorage on the east of Paxos between Lakka and Gaios. There is a small quay that can take 2-3 yachts stern-too in calm weather. Village very pretty.
Danger: Be aware of the dangerous rock Ifalos Paxoi ESE of Longos.
Offshore Islands
Mongonisi
GPS: 39°11′N, 20°12.21′E
The island of Mongonisi is at the S end of Paxos it forms an almost land-locked inlet. It can only be entered from from the north. The inlet provides an excellent shelter.
Anchor in 2-4 m over sand and weed.
Anti-Paxos
There are two bays on the east side of the Anti-Paxos island. They are very popular lunch and swimming spots. They are crowded and noisy during the day. In very calm weather a few yachts overnight here to enjoy the tranquility and clear water.

The Windmill of Paxos Island is worth a visit.
Also, in west side of Paxos there are several caves.
