Check-in facilities
Clearing into to Langkawi or Malaysia via Langkawi for a yacht and its crew and passengers is one of the most painless exercises that a skipper will endure anywhere on this planet.
When entering Bass Harbour close to 06d 19' North 099d 50' East; a very large statue of an Eagle (Brahminy Kite) will be observed in the North east corner of the Harbour - see blue arrow. Anchor boat red arrow. Yellow arrow >> inside the Ferry Terminal you will find Immigration - dress with sensibility!

Awana Porto Malai is south of Wavemaster. You will see the Star Cruises berth adjacent to it. A few Mediterranean style berths are available, stern-to the land-bound arm of the Star Cruises wharf. You can also anchor outside the artificial harbour and there are a couple of moorings which may be free ENE of the NE end of the sea wall (approx. 06d 16.65' N 099d 44.35' E). The Awana Porto Malai will hold mail and parcels.
Anchorages
Langkawi's anchorages listed here are those that are good for specific times of the year - unlike temperate and cold climes where seasons govern cruising activities - here it is the monsoons ie. the North East, between November and May, which comes without rain and the South West, between June and November, that brings rain from the Indian Ocean. Therefore in choosing where to anchor remember where the prevailing wind will come from and most importantly remember that during the SW Monsoon, winds called "Sumatras" will descend without warning from the west coming through for a short time at speeds that will have the potential to take your awning away and unfurl your headsail. Note : Pulau in Malay means island
