I am an Island girl having grown up on Yorke Island in the Torres Strait. For those who do not know where this is, the Torres Strait is a group of Islands that lie in between the tip of Australia (Cape York) & Papua New Guinea. Growing on an Island you tend to grow up respecting the ocean and all that it beholds and what it is capable of doing. Have always been in a dinghy Island hopping and have never tried a sail boat until I met my partner Robert and got hooked. So whenever we go out we sail a 28ft Tilly named FREEBIRD! (Love this boat to bits.) Sailing is far different from a dinghy where you just power on to where ever you want to go, and sailing you tend to take in the serenity of it all and truly admire the endless horizon. I still have a ways to go to learn the aspects of sailing. Robert has this dream of building an open sailing dinghy to circumnavigate OZ. Before we set off around OZ we will spend time exploring the gardens of the Torres Strait.
